COBLE SAYS PROJECTS IN DAVIDSON, GUILFORD AND ROWAN RECEIVE FUNDS IN JUST-PASSED TRANSPORTATION BILL
Projects in Davidson, Guilford and Rowan counties will receive much-needed funds thanks to U.S. Rep. Howard Coble's efforts to include requests in the just-passed Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development appropriations conference report for fiscal year 2006 (H.R. 3058). Congressman Coble said the bill, which passed today by a vote of 392-31, included funds for Davidson County Community College, the Rowan County Airport, and the transportation shuttle system for the Furniture Market in High Point.
Rep. Coble said that the Rowan County Airport will receive $1 million to purchase additional parcels of land. "Airport officials tell me that one parcel of land is available for purchase now because of the relocation of a business," Rep. Coble said. "Additional parcels will be bought in order to control natural and man-made obstructions to current runways and allow for the potential of future runway expansion. We worked closely with the N.C. DOT's Division of Aviation in developing this request."
Congressman Coble said that Davidson County Community College will receive $250,000 to expand its technological learning environment. "DCCC has ambitious plans to upgrade and expand its offerings for the Conference, Training, and Technology Building, in addition to the Love Learning Resource Center," Rep. Coble noted. "This request for federal funds will be matched with a potential county bond referendum along with a capital campaign to fully fund the project."
Finally, Rep. Coble said that an additional $850,000 will be forthcoming for the bus shuttle system being developed for the International Home Furnishings Market conducted in High Point. "We must make High Point as attractive a host city as possible for the Furniture Market," Coble added. "With Las Vegas nipping at our heels, we cannot rest on our past laurels. One key to future success is swiftly moving buyers and exhibitors around downtown High Point. I appreciate the cooperation we received from Senators Dole and Burr on working for the success of these vital projects."
With House passage of the conference report, the Senate is expected to vote on H.R. 3058 today, as well, and then it will go the White House for President Bush's signature.
