ANNOUNCES FIRE DEPARTMENT GRANTS
FOR
DAVIDSON AND ROWAN COUNTIES
(WASHINGTON,
D.C.)----The chairman of the House subcommittee that deals
with homeland security issues announced today that fire departments
in Davidson and Rowan counties will receive grants from the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). U.S. Rep.
Howard Coble (R-NC), the chairman of the House Judiciary
Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security,
said today that fire departments in Thomasville and Salisbury
will receive the DHS grants.
Congressman
Coble announced that the Locke Township Fire Department
in Salisbury will receive $92,723 in DHS funds while the
Pilot Fire Department in Thomasville will
receive $46,242 from DHS. Rep. Coble said the funds
come from the DHS program known as Operations
and Firefighter Safety. "These
funds can be used for a number of purposes," Rep. Coble
stated. "The
monies may be spent on training, equipment, personal protective
apparatus, wellness and fitness programs, as well as modifications
to fire stations and facilities. This is part of
the ongoing commitment of Congress and the administration
to providing our first responders with the resources they
need to remain effective."
Congressman
Coble said these grants are part of more than 8,000 which have
been distributed in fiscal year 2004 totaling nearly $750 million.
