ALAMANCE
CHARTER SCHOOL RECEIVES USDA LOAN REP. COBLE ANNOUNCES
A
fast-growing charter school in Alamance County has received a multi-million
dollar federal loan to grow even more, U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC)
announced today. Congressman Coble said the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) has approved a $2.250 million loan for Clover Garden School
in Burlington.
Coble,
who represents most of Alamance County in the House, said the USDA
loan will come from rural development funds. "These federal
dollars will be used to purchase the existing building that houses
the school," Rep. Coble stated, "as well as allow the
school to construct a second building. These rural development funds
are an excellent example of a private-public partnership that works.
Charter schools such as Clover Garden also give parents a choice
when deciding how to educate their children."
"This
loan has been a long-time in the making," said Faye McDaniel,
Principal of Clover Garden School. "We are thankful that these
funds will allow us to grow and meet our future goals of educating
as many students as possible." McDaniel said there are approximately
360 students currently enrolled at Clover Garden in grades K-11.
Next year, with grades K-12, Clover Garden could have as many as
450 students.
This
USDA loan will be used to purchase an existing 20,000 square-foot
building, as well as construct a new 20,000 square-foot building.
The new building will house middle and high school students. There
will be 17 classrooms in the new structure, along with offices,
work rooms, and restrooms . The loan will also be used to purchase
equipment and an emergency generator.
McDaniel
said once the paperwork is completed, the new building could be
completed in about six months. The USDA loan is a low-interest loan
that must be repaid in 20 years. The lender will be The Fidelity
Bank in Mebane. Clover Garden School is located on Altamahaw-Union
Ridge Road in Burlington.
