COBLE SAYS FIVE 6TH DISTRICT FIRE DEPARTMENTS TO RECEIVE FEDERAL HOMELAND SECURITY MONEY

Five fire departments in the 6th District are scheduled to receive U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) grants, U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) announced today. Congressman Coble – the chairman of the Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security subcommittee in the U.S. House – said that $415,408 will be going to firefighters in Alamance, Davidson and Randolph counties.

Rep. Coble said the funds are coming from the 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program operated by DHS. “These grants are given directly to local fire departments,” Rep. Coble stated, “to improve effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, and to establish or expand fire prevention efforts. I am pleased that fire departments in the 6th District are participating in this very competitive grant program.”

Congressman Coble said the following 6th District fire departments will be receiving DHS grants:

· Elon Fire and Rescue, Inc. --- $63,000.

· E.M. Holt Community Volunteer Fire Dept. --- $53,138.

Holly Grove Fire Department, Inc. --- $120,603.

· Healing Springs Fire Department, Inc. --- $70,965.

· Franklinville Fire Department, Inc., --- $107,702.

Congressman Coble said that the five fire departments in his district will use their DHS grant funds to purchase new firefighting equipment and improve firefighter safety equipments. “We must do all we can to assist these critical first responders,” Coble said, “and these DHS grants will go a long way toward ensuring that our local fire departments have the tools they need to protect our communities.”
