COBLE OBTAINS MONEY FOR MOORE WATER PROJECT
Plans to bring modern water infrastructure to northwest Moore County moved much closer to reality today thanks to the congressman who represents Moore County in the House. U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) was successful today in obtaining $500,000 for the Northwest Moore Water District.
Congressman Coble was successful in securing the half-million dollars in the Fiscal Year 2006 Interior, environment and related agencies appropriations bill. “This project will sustain economic growth and preserve the quality of life in this portion of Moore County,” Rep. Coble noted. “This is in addition to the $250,000 we secured late last year for the town of Landis so officials there could upgrade Landis’s water and sewer services. Moore County continues to grow and modern water infrastructure improvements are needed to keep up with the demand.”
The Northwest Moore Water District funds were obtained by Rep. Coble in a program known as State and Tribal Assistance Grant (STAG) Account. The STAG Account was part of the Interior appropriations conference report which was approved by the House today by a vote of 410-10. The Senate still must approve the conference report. In addition, local officials will have to obtaining matching funds in order to receive the federal money.
