Coble
Files for 11th Term
Saying
that he still enjoys serving the 6th District of North Carolina
and that he has more he wishes to accomplish, U.S. Representative
Howard Coble just filed for his 11th term in office. Coble, first
elected in 1984, has represented the 6th District for the past 10
consecutive terms, making him the dean of the state's congressional
delegation.
Congressman
Coble, a Greensboro native, is the chairman of the House Judiciary
Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. In addition
to serving on the Judiciary committee, Rep. Coble also is a member
of the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee.
"I
am proud of the record of achievement we have maintained throughout
our tenure in serving the 6th District," Coble stated, "but
we are not resting on our laurels. We will continue to work on our
top priorities which include, in no particular order: promoting
fiscal responsibility by reducing excessive government spending
and taking a sharp pencil to the federal deficit; enhancing our
homeland security and fighting the war on terrorism; improving and
rebuilding our nation's highway and mass transit infrastructure;
promoting fair trade practices and better enforcement of current
trade agreements; and enacting legislation that grows the economy
and creates job opportunities and job stability. My committee assignments
in the House afford me the opportunity to be well-positioned to
work on those initiatives."
For
an example of his effectiveness, the Greensboro Republican noted
that in the six-year highway reauthorization bill now working its
way through Congress, Rep. Coble was able to obtain $60 million
for highway and transit projects in the 6th District and throughout
the state.
Rep.
Coble also noted that his veteran staff is known for its stability
and effectiveness. "When it comes to solving problems in dealing
with the federal government," Coble added, "we have assisted
literally thousands of 6th District residents over the years, but
that is what we should be doing. We remain committed to serving
the citizens of the 6th District, and that is why I am seeking another
term in office to live up to that commitment."
