CONGRESSMAN COBLE FILES FOR 12th TERM
The dean of the North Carolina congressional
deligation formally filed for reelection today. Congressman Howard Coble (R-NC)
said today he would seek a 12th term in the U.S. House this fall.
Coble, who was first elected in 1984, is one of the longest-serving members in
the history of the North Carolina congressional delegation. “I am still excited every
day to serve the people of the Sixth District of North Carolina,” Coble noted, “and if
the majority of those citizens feel I have done a good job in representing their interests
in Washington, I will be honored to serve another two years. There remains a fire in the
belly and the desire to get the job done.”
Because of his seniority and leadership, Congressman Coble has been able to secure
millions of dollars for much-needed projects throughout the Sixth District while at the
same time continue to be honored by taxpayer watchdog groups for his overall fiscally
conservative voting record. “I am proud of my record of being a faithful steward of
taxpayer dollars,” Coble stated. “I continue to believe that our district’s citizens desire to
restrain the overall growth of government at the federal level,” Coble said, “and I have
voted accordingly. I also have worked tirelessly to address North Carolina’s historic low
ranking when it comes to overall federal spending, and I am proud of what we have
accomplished in returning more of our hard-earned tax dollars to our citizens.”
Coble also mentioned that he is extremely proud of the level of constituent services his offices have years. “I know I am the beneficiary of having an
outstanding veteran staff in place to serve the needs of our citizens,’ Coble said. “We
have a reputation for providing excellent constituent services. That is always priority
number one with us. I think we have lived up to that commitment, and if reelected, that
will remain our number one goal.”
If the Republican Party maintains the majority status in the 110th Congress in 2007,
Coble also will seek to become the chairman of the House Judiciary committee. The North Carolina congressional delegation has not had a full committee chairman since
Charlie Rose was chairman of the House Administration committee in the early 1990s.
Coble is also a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee.
He currently is chairman of Judiciary’s Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security
subcommittee.
