Coble named
to Aviation Committee
Washington, Feb
2 - U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC),
reappointed for another two-year term on the House Transportation
and Infrastructure committee, today was selected to join the
Aviation subcommittee, along with his other current subcommittee
assignments on the Highways, Transit and Pipelines and Coast
Guard and Maritime Transportation panels. In order to join the
Aviation subcommittee, Congressman Coble had to relinquish his
post on Railroads.
βI am delighted to join the Aviation subcommittee,β Rep. Coble said. βIt
will be the focal point of many high-profile issues during the 109th Congress,
including such hot topics as aviation security and safety. Obviously, the Piedmont
Triad International Airport is a vital economic engine for the 6th District of
North Carolina, so being appointed to this important subcommittee will assist
us in our efforts to help facilitate issues affecting PTIA, along with our airports
in Alamance, Moore and Rowan counties.β
Rep. Coble joins Rep. Robin Hayes (R-NC) as the only North Carolinians on the
Aviation subcommittee or the full Transportation and Infrastructure committee.
Rep. John Mica (R-FL) is chairman of the Aviation subcommittee. Congressman
Coble has been a member of the full committee since it was created in 1995.
He ranks 4th in seniority on the Republican side of the panel.
The Aviation subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Federal Aviation Administration,
the National Transportation Safety Board, along with aviation safety and security
issues through the Transportation Safety Administration.
