Letter:
Job well done
Few in
North Carolina may have noticed that Rep. Howard Coble, R-6th District,
who served for six years as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee's
Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property
in the House, was obliged by Republican rules to give up his mantle
of leadership. He no longer even serves on the subcommittee, one
of the most important in Congress.
Without
taking sides on whether the Republican rules on chair tenure are
sound public policy, or determining how to bridge the gap between
the benefit of institutional memory and the infusion of new leadership
blood, it is fair to say that Howard Coble did a terrific job as
subcommittee chairman, compiling a long list of achievements, developing
a reputation for fairness and earning the respect of members from
both political parties.
Howard
Coble continues to serve in Congress, and now wields the gavel for
the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism had Homeland Security, where
he will contribute to the future safety and security of the nation.
I just hope that he gets due recognition from North Carolinians
for his past achievements.

J. Remington
